The traditional Hodder v Rhetoric cricket match took place in customary style with Rhetoricians bedecked in suitable attire.  They were the Hoddericians of 1998 and had reminisced before the event about their own match as SMH Under 10's.  This is a long established tradition and a major event in the SMH calendar.  Indeed, an OS from 1952 who was visiting the school at the time, remembered the match being played in his day.

Rhetoric proclaim the challenge ...

... and Hodder readily accept.

The result was a foregone conclusion as the Hodder team were simply too strong.  Surprisingly, and against all predictions, they beat Rhetoric by one run.

This seems to happen every year.

Rhetoric had not calculated for Hodder's secret weapon, however.

A mighty appeal from the Rhetoricians leaves the umpire (and the spectators) unmoved. I wonder what Hawkeye would have thought.
