We had all prayed for good weather, and were lucky enough to see a beautiful, sunny start to the day. We collected our picnic lunches, put on sensible footwear and raincoats (just in case!) and boarded the coach. As we approached the hill, the children started to get a little apprehensive – “Mrs Hughes, surely you can’t mean we have to climb all the way up there?!!” but Mr Mercer, our Boarding Tutor had got our route all worked out.
It was great fun climbing up together – and the few complaints soon turned to gasps of appreciation as the children saw the stunning views from the hills. We all helped and encouraged one another, and when we finally reached the top, sat down and enjoyed a wonderful picnic, with chicken, sausage rolls and four kinds of sandwiches! I’m sure the photographs speak for what a wonderful experience we had – and many of the children have already asked when they can go back again, despite a few aching legs on the way up.
