Open Day was a great success, with over 50 families visiting SMH to have a good look at us in action.  After coffee at the College, The Headmasters of Stonyhurst College and St. Mary’s Hall gave short addresses to everyone and this was followed by a talk from the SMH Academic Deputy Head.  Then came the important speeches.  Gabriel, the Head Boy, Beatrice, The Head Girl and Annabel, a Senior Boarder all spoke to us about their lives here at SMH.  They were brilliant.

A view of the Top Refectory from the Minstrels' Gallery.

From there, we toured SMH and visited various classrooms where classes were being taught.  It has to be said the staff tour guides could not have done without the excellent (and rather more expert) help of the Committee members who accompanied them.  After leaving SMH, it was a tour of the College followed by a sumptuous lunch in the Top Refectory.

Parents were asked what their abiding memory of the day would be.  Here are some of their answers.

     What a fabulous school!

The important factor is that there is a spiritual education here as well as an academic. A rarity these days.

The presentation and manners of the children as well as how outward looking the school is.

Pleasant and knowledgeable guides, fantastic architecture and smiling faces

Just to see how happy and confident all of the children are. A very happy environment.

Warm, friendly, caring environment

A happy friendly environment evident in the children already here

The change to meet the wonderful students who are a credit to the school

An excellent tour – a very friendly school

The enthusiasm of the staff and the pupils

The presentations, the tour guides and the charm of the children at this school and the lovely lunch
