Picture the scene: a fine summer's morning, Elements Playroom assembly, Mr Turvey in full flow, the children in rapt attention, concentrating on every syllable.  Then, this idyllic scene was rent asunder by the entry of two ex-Hoddericians, now Rhetoricians.  "Men of Hodder, now called Lower Elements!" they bellowed.  "We challenge you to a game of bat and ball according to the age-old tradition.  Do you accept?"

Well, Lower Elements did not need another invitation and battle was joined at an appointed time a few days later.  By an enormous coincidence, as this seems to happen every year, Rhetoric lost by one run.

The challenge is issued once more ... just in case.

Harry B and Joe Garlington, the two Captains, shake hands before the start.

The Secret Weapon ... the youngest boy in Preparatory.
