SMH goes BANANAS for FAIRTRADE

Mrs Jacqueline Hines, Figures Playroom Mistress, writes

“We are a Fairtrade school and we have been supporting Fairtrade fortnight along with the College. The SMH Fairtrade group has been raising our awareness of the issues of Fairtrade by presenting a range of "tasting events" and these have been enjoyed by everyone including the teachers.  On "Go Bananas" Day, everyone in the school was encouraged to eat a banana and sample the delights of the desserts at lunch which all featured bananas. This was a National event and almost 400,000 people took part. At present the world eats about 10 billion bananas a year and Fairtrade is trying to get a fairer deal for the producers; by 2012 we are hoping that over half of the bananas bought and sold in Britain are Fairtrade.”

Banana sundaes at 1st Rec were a real treat and all of them made by pupils in Figures.

What a difficult decision!

YUM!

We all wore something yellow for "Go Bananas" Day.
